We offer you to create yourself your garden hedge, woven with living osier.

Variety of osier:

• Yellow SALIX ALBA
• Black of Villaines SALIX TRIANDRA

Planting and availability: from December to mid-March.

Withy length: from 2.40 m to 2.80 m for a hedge of 1m to 1.50 m.

Number of withy:

• Simple hedge: 20 withies / meter spaced out 10 cm apart.
• Double hedge: 27 to 30 withies / meter spaced out 15 to 20 cm apart.
• Triple hedge : 30 to 45 withies / meter spaced out 15 to 20 cm apart.

* On a strip of dug ground, plant stakes of chestnut or of treated pine measuring 2.50 m., every 2 to 4 meters, and this for the good posture of your hedge.

* Tighten 2 rows of wires to which the hedge will be tied the time needed for it to become strong.

* Bevell the withies feet and put them on the ground by 2, 4 or 6 according to the type of hedge chosen, with a gap of 10 to 20 cm , 30 cm in depth.

* Slope the left withies of each pair diagonally to the left, for them to cross the right ones leant to the right, passing by them.

* In the 2nd row, reverse the crossings, the front withies passing behind.

* Drawing level with the wires, tie the crossings with small withies or raffia.

* At the top, you can leave the withies free, or trim them, or make them round by putting the withies heads down to form small bridges (take care not to bend the withy).

Upkeeping the osier hedge:

In order to ease the digging in, it is important to foresee, as soon as the beginning of the planting, a regular watering drop by drop for a hedge in the open ground, or with a watering can for window boxes.

Medieval Garden Edge

Weaving in « board» undressed osier, reinforcements chestnut diam. 40 to 50 mm every 1.50 meter.

Tube diameter 20 mm every 1 linear meter, with round fixing iron pin of 14 mm diameter.
Finishing garden edge with 4 withies, height on request;

To create a garden edge yourself, you need to have :

• 6 kg dry wicker in 2m60 by m2,
• 1 stake of chestnut every 1 linear meter,
• 1 upright in large pole every 20 to 30 cm approximately.

Soak or make us soak your wicker (one week in cold water), then begin the weaving between the uprights.
You can weave 3 to 4 withies at the same time.
